Toyota Wins First-Ever Sprint Cup Victory

Published by CoolEyeBlue at 5:25 pm under cars, racing

Toyota joined NASCAR last year amid resentment from the American-made stock car owners, notably Jack Roush. Toyota experienced a rather scandalous first year. An unknown substance was found in Michael Waltrip’s #55 Camry during pre-qualification inspection. And there were no wins.

But what a difference a season makes. In only the fourth race of its second season, Toyota finished 1 and 2 in Atlanta. Kyle Busch took the victory flag while teammate Tony Stewart finished second. Both are members of Joe Gibbs Racing.

Toyota pulled an equally impressive showing when it first started racing Toyota Tundras in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2000. Toyota won their first race also in the second year.
