Wordpress, which this blog is based on, is king of Content Management Systems. Joomla! and Drupal are closing in at second and third place.
I just recently tried to install the latest and greatest Joomla! 1.5.2 CMS. What I found was that it broke quickly after installation. It couldn’t find a file on a misnamed directory. As good as Joomla! looks, this is very messy coding. Joomla! itself also requires FTP access so it demands your FTP login and password. Not cool.
Drupal, on the other hand, I have not tried yet. It’s installation process did not looked very user friendly. Perhaps I will give it a try in the future.

Judging Joomla, Drupal or any other CMS simply on the fact that the install process is to complex for some users is a bit off the point. WP is certainly easy to set up and run, but what if you want to use more complex applications like CRM systems or you have a site which generates tens of posts every hour and you want to keep the house in order over a huge organization with many different roles - I think it depends on where you want to deploy it and for what purpose. I´m not a developer and it took me an hour to have Drupal 6 up and running.
Good point. But that is one factor why one CMS is more popular than another. Other factors do include support, themes, plugin, documentation, etc. Joomla looked like it had a good community of plugins, but their latest “stable” version had a warning right after installation. How could that not have been caught? Also, Joomla!’s package was over 12MB.
“WordPress is the King of Content Management Systems” is being proclaimed based on its Alexa rank and its visitor amounts? Comical.
If you said King of Blog Engines then I would be ok with that, but Wordpress is far from an enterprise CMS. Please try to think of how you would build fastcompany.com on Wordpress, then you can say Wordpress is better than Drupal. Joomla is easier to use than Drupal but it’s not as powerful. Wordpress is the best blog engine if you aren’t worried about doing much more than a blog and a half a dozen pages.
Maybe because blogsweek.com is powered by WP? I can see the bias, hehe… Is Alexa correct in categorizing WP as CMS?
